Wedding photography quotes can look wildly different, even for the same date and venue. The difference usually comes down to a few things you can compare side by side once you know what to look for.
What actually drives the price
Hours of coverage. This is the biggest factor. A courthouse ceremony or small elopement might need three hours. A day with getting-ready photos, a ceremony, family formals, and a full reception usually needs eight or more.
How many photographers. A second photographer catches the groom's reaction while the first photographs the bride walking in, and covers guests while portraits are happening. Some photographers include a second shooter, and many charge extra for one.
How many edited photos you receive. Ask for a number. "All the good ones" is hard to compare; "500+ edited photos" is easy.
Extras. Engagement sessions, rehearsal coverage, albums, and rush delivery can be built in or added on.
Travel. Many local photographers cover their home area at no extra cost. Destination or long-distance weddings often carry a travel charge.
How to compare quotes fairly
Put each quote into the same simple table:
- Hours of coverage
- Number of photographers
- Number of edited photos
- Delivery time for the full gallery
- What is included (engagement session, sneak peeks, album credit)
- Total price
A cheaper quote with half the coverage, one photographer, and no engagement session is not a better deal. It is a different product. For more on that trade-off, see why budget wedding photography can cost you your best memories.

How much coverage do you need?
- Ceremony and a short celebration: three hours usually works.
- Ceremony, family photos, portraits, and part of the reception: six hours.
- Getting ready through the send-off: eight hours.
- Two locations, a long reception, or a big family: ten or more.
If you are not sure, a free consultation is the easiest way to find out. We walk through your timeline and recommend enough coverage without paying for hours you will not use.
When to book
For popular spring and fall Saturdays in The Woodlands, Magnolia, Montgomery, and Conroe, book 6 to 12 months ahead. Weekday and off-season dates usually have more flexibility.
Questions to ask any photographer
- How many photographers will be there, and is the second one included?
- How many edited photos should we expect?
- When do we get sneak peeks, and when does the full gallery arrive?
- What happens if you are sick on our wedding day?
- Is travel to our venue included?
