New Waverly is surrounded by Sam Houston National Forest, which is the most photographer-friendly land in our service area: small portrait sessions need no permit. Cagle Recreation Area gives you piney woods and Lake Conroe shoreline in one stop.

Beyond the Houston area, we travel to Galveston for any package, the Austin area for sessions of $750 or more, and Dallas for projects of $2,000 or more.

Our go-to New Waverly spots are Cagle Recreation Area, Big Creek Scenic Area, and District Ranger Station. We pick between them based on the session type, the light at your session time, parking, and how much walking you want.
In Sam Houston National Forest, small paid portrait sessions (five or fewer people, hand-carried gear, no exclusive use of a site) do not need a permit; larger crews or setups need a Special Use Permit. Groups of six to eight may need a free De Minimis authorization from the forest office. Huntsville State Park requires a commercial photography permit from Texas Parks & Wildlife, filed at least 90 days ahead, so we only book it with the permit in hand.

Wildflower season runs March and April. Fall color in the forest is modest but real in late November. Cagle’s lakeshore works at golden hour year-round. Hunting season runs roughly November through January.
