For portraits in Willis we usually start with Sam Houston National Forest, Double Lake Recreation Area, and Lone Star Hiking Trail trailheads. We choose based on the look you want, the light at your session time, parking, and how much walking you want to do.
The forest is best in spring for wildflowers and fog, and again in fall. Summer brings heavy mosquitoes and humidity in the woods, so we shoot early and bring repellent. During fall hunting season we stay in recreation areas and on designated trails.
